This section of route 8 is an integral part of the whole route 8 from Chap Lap Kok Airport to Sha Tin. For programming and construction contract arrangement purposes, this section of route 8 has been divided into four main portions:

(i) Ngong Shuen Chau Viaduct,

(ii) Stonecutters Bridge,

(iii) East Tsing Yi Viaduct, and

(iv) Nam Wan Tunnel and West Tsing Yi Viaduct.
